Update: Thank you to everyone who expressed interest in this job listing! At this time we're no longer seeking new applicants. Should we have any additional job openings in the future, we'll post about it here and via our Twitter.

Our San Francisco-based team is seeking a Map Artist to set-dress our 2D environments using premade assets inside our proprietary game engine, transforming our maps and levels from the initial designer 'graybox' into beautiful, atmospheric places that feel ingrained in our worlds. This is a part-time, remote position on an as-needed basis for a limited scope of work.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Use pre-existing 2D assets to dress and light in-game environments using our proprietary tools and engine

  • Take feedback from Environment Artist and Art Director to meet artistic requirements

  • Deliver on artistic / creative goals while adhering to production, gameplay, and performance requirements

About the Candidate:

  • Experience working with a map editor on shipped titles or completed personal projects

  • Organized, responsible, and able to work autonomously

  • Excellent written and verbal communication

  • Experience with Photoshop and visual storytelling

  • Familiarity with Supergiant’s titles; general interest in video games

To apply, please email with the subject line "Map Artist". Include a link to your portfolio in the first line, and your resume in the body of the email (no attachments please). In your note, please also provide brief responses to the following questions:

  • What are some of your artistic inspirations?

  • What is your favorite aspect of putting together game environments?

  • Your power animal: What is it?!

Note: As part of the selection process, we may ask you for a paid art test.
